KSDE schedules 2009 budget meetings

KSDE budget workshops are conducted for superintendents and/or business managers of unified school districts. The budget process will be explained step by step. County clerks and school auditors (CPA) may also attend the workshops. Board members or officers of your teachers' association are also welcome.

There is no charge to attend a workshop, however, participants will be responsible for the cost of the noon meal and other refreshments provided at the workshop site. “Budget 101” is designed to introduce first-year superintendents to the budget process; this workshop is held in conjunction with the KASA Summer Seminar and New Superintendent Workshop in Salina. New superintendents can register at the same time they register for the summer meeting.

I am suggesting, and I think the board is as well, that we want to work very hard to change that perception this year.  I want to again share the major initiatives which were identified at our retreat and which create a proactive platform for us this year. Emporia's John Heim Named Kansas
"Superintendent of the Year"

Topeka – Emporia Superintendent John Heim has been selected as the 2008 Kansas Superintendent of the Year by the Kansas Association of School Administrators. Candidates are assessed according to their professionalism, communication, community involvement and leadership in meeting the needs of students. Dr. Heim said it is an honor to be selected from a pool of outstanding educational leaders in Kansas. It is especially meaningful that his father, Max Heim, was the second recipient of the award in 1990 while he was superintendent at Geary County.
