As part of our commitment to providing resources for school districts to engage communities and build public support for K-12 public education, several administrators have worked to develop resources for your district to use this Fall.
Public Service Announcement: Video
Brenda Dietrich (Superintendent, Auburn Washburn USD 437), Martin Weishaar (Communication Education Coordinator, Auburn Washburn USD 437) and Ron Harbaugh (Director of Communication, Topeka USD 501) have developed a 30 second public service announcement (PSA) for districts. The PSA is available online and DVDs are available upon request. Districts are encouraged to:
- work with local media to broadcast this message on public access stations. As a PSA, many of your local cable channels and public broadcast stations will air this message at NO COST to your district.
- share this message with local community organizations, and
- link and/or post this this message on your district's website.
Letter to the Editor: Print media
Additionally, we have developed a template for you to personalize and place in local newspapers, magazines and newsletters to accompany the PSA. Districts are encouraged to edit the message and "personalize" it with information about your school district.
Our goal is to speak with a unified voice for public education. We are encouraging all districts to edit and "personalize" the attached letter and submit it to the editor of your local paper for publication the week of September 28, 2009.
